S3E7: Life on Life's Terms - with Jon Gordon
This week on the Show Me the Way Podcast, I had the pleasure of sitting down with my friend and fellow networking partner, Jon Gordon, and what an uplifting and mindset-shifting conversation this was!
Jon has experienced his share of ups and downs, including the loss of his dad and his mom’s cancer diagnosis, which led him to make a commitment to being her primary caregiver. But what really stood out in our conversation was the incredible life Jon intentionally chose to create for himself about five years ago.
After looking in the mirror and realizing he didn’t like what he saw, Jon knew something had to change. He began focusing on four important “buckets” in his life: mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional. He compares these areas to the battery on your iPhone—when you’re running on empty, you can’t function at your best.
Rather than trying to completely transform his life overnight, Jon focused on making 1–2% improvements every day. With a changed mindset, a commitment to himself, and a decision to keep moving forward, those small changes began adding up.
Today, Jon says he is happier than he’s ever been. He’s in a much better place mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally, and he’s sharing life with an amazing girlfriend. In fact, the day after we recorded this conversation, they were headed to Hawaii with her mom!
Jon’s faith, gratitude, positivity, and outlook on life are contagious. He openly shares how many of the things he does today are completely different from what he would have done before making his transformation—and how much happier he is because of those changes.
I hope you’ll listen for the many nuggets Jon shares and consider where you might be able to make your own 1–2% improvements. Sometimes we don’t need to change everything at once. We just need to take the next step, keep moving forward, and choose the life we want to live.
What an encouraging reminder that small changes can create a BIG difference!
