This week on Show Me the Way, I had the joy of interviewing someone I’ve known since preschool — Corey Gill. Corey and I have over 40 years of history together. Our families were connected, our moms worked together, we played sports, enjoyed music, shared laughs, and thanks to social media, we’ve been able to reconnect as adults.
I’ve always admired Corey as a strong, competent woman. I love following her hardcore workout routine, her beautiful relationship with her husband, things about her son who’s the same age as my oldest, her daughter, and her adorable grandkids. Corey is a hardworking wife, mom, and grandma who is always striving to improve herself and create the best life for her family.
But this past summer, things shifted. Corey’s usual “worry mode” dialed up, leading to a major panic attack that left her struggling to work, to function, and to keep up with her regular routines. What came after was a season of deep anxiety — the kind so many of us quietly battle. We may not all experience a full-blown panic attack, but we often do let worries take over when we try to control everything or chase perfection. Fear creeps in, and faith gets pushed aside.
In this episode, Corey opens up with incredible honesty about what she went through. She shares what she learned, what she researched, and the steps she’s taking now to regulate her nervous system and move forward with hope and intention. Her vulnerability is powerful, relatable, and such a gift.
This is an important, timely conversation — especially as we head into the holiday season, when stress and expectations can run high. I’m honored Corey trusted me with her story, and I know you’ll walk away feeling seen, supported, and encouraged.
Corey mentioned a book - here is the title if you want to check it out - Dare: The New Way to End Anxiety and Stop Panic Attacks by Barry McDonagh.
